Show notes:

In the first segment, our panelists discuss the decision of the Alabama High School Athletic Association that all games at each regional event are played as scheduled. The Oakwood Adventist Academy High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team had to forfeit a playoff game scheduled to be played on Saturday, giving up a chance for a state championship because the game falls on the Sabbath for Seventh-day Adventists.

In the second segment of the show, we explore the response of Alaska Airlines employees to the airlines’ expression of support of the Equality Act when it was being discussed in Congress in early 2021. Alaska Airlines announced their support for the bill—which aims at ending discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation and gender identity in public accommodations, employment, housing, credit and more. According to court documents, employees Brown and Smith were ‘compelled by their Christian faith’ to comment on the decision.

In the third segment, our focus turns to the court case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The case concerns the constitutionality of a Mississippi law prohibiting abortions after the fifteenth week of pregnancy. The state used the case as a vehicle to ask the Supreme Court to take away the federal constitutional right to abortion it first recognized 50 years before in Roe v. Wade. On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States accepted the state’s invitation and overturned Roe eliminating the federal constitutional right to abortion.
