Show notes:

In the first segment, our panelists discuss Arizona’s HB 2507. This bill, similar to previous legislation, raises concerns due to its broad definition of a “discriminatory act.” HB 2507 expands the scope of protection for religious organizations, potentially granting them immunity from fees, penalties, or damages imposed by the government. Critics argue that this bill goes beyond religious exemptions, allowing religious organizations to claim freedom from any governmental action they perceive as adverse.

In the second segment of the show, we explore the court case Agudath Israel of America v. Cuomo. Agudath Israel, an Orthodox Jewish advocacy organization, filed a lawsuit against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, challenging his discriminatory “cluster action initiative” that targeted the Orthodox Jewish community under the guise of COVID-19 measures. After a series of legal battles, including an emergency injunction granted by the Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled in favor of Agudath Israel, halting the governor’s restrictions on religious worship.
