Show notes:

In the first segment, our panelists discuss that Kansas has granted a religious exemption to driver’s license restrictions for 15-year-olds with a restricted license, allowing them to drive to church or other religious activities. The new law expands the exemption previously given to 16-year-olds and permits driving to farm-related work, jobs, school, and any religious activity held by a religious organization.

In the second segment of the show, our focus turns to the case Burwell v. Hobby Lobby. The US Supreme Court ruled (5-4) in the case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores that a for-profit company can deny employees health coverage of contraception based on religious objections of the company’s owners. The Court found that Congress intended the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) to apply to corporations and that the contraceptive mandate creates a substantial burden on religious corporations that violates the RFRA. The ruling only applies to the contraceptive mandate and not to all objections to the Affordable Care Act on religious grounds.

In the final segment, Tell Me Something I Don’t Know, each panelist quickly shares interesting pieces of information related to religious freedom.
